WEB Davis Is Stripped of His Lightweight Title After Missing Weight, Opening the Door for Fonseca to Challenge for the Vacant Belt

WEB Gervonta Davis was scheduled to defend his lightweight title against Hector Luis Garcia on Saturday night, but the fight was canceled after Davis failed to make weight. Davis weighed in at 136 pounds, one pound over the lightweight limit. As a result, Davis has been stripped of his title, and Fonseca will now face Rolly Romero for the vacant belt.

Davis has a history of missing weight. In 2019, he was stripped of his IBF super featherweight title after missing weight for a fight against Ryan Garcia. Davis also struggled to make weight for his fight against Leo Santa Cruz in 2020, but he was ultimately able to weigh in at the 130-pound limit.

Davis's latest weight miss has raised questions about his future in the sport. If he is unable to consistently make weight, he may be forced to move up to a higher weight class. However, Davis has repeatedly stated that he has no plans to move up in weight. He believes that he is the best lightweight in the world, and he is determined to prove it.
